Multiflora To Host La Yegros & DJ rAT September 25th

We are super excited to host La Yegros from Bueno Aires at Tropicalia on Thursday Sept 25 with special guest Dj rAt of Maracuyeah DC.  Crowned the ‘New Queen of Nu-Cumbia’ by MTV Iggy and poised to emerge on the global stage, La Yegros is a powerful presence on Buenos Aires’ underground culture. Her debut album “Viene De Mi” features a wide spectrum of genres: tropical rhythms, Argentine folk, reggae, dancehall, soul, and arabic music all unified by a unique voice and larger-than-life performance presence. There’s a sass to her singing, at once fresh and urgent yet aged in experience and attitude, that cuts through contemporary cumbia, drawing on both deep folk traditions and cutting edge beats. La Yegros resides in the pulsing heart of cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, but her family hails from the tropical climates found in the rural rain forests of the north, bordering Brazil. She received classical, conservatory training in music and got her break when she played before thousands as part of the De La Guarda experimental theatre.”I was brought up with the spirit of folklore, and my father carried a radio around all day and night… I was always surrounded by music.” says La Yegros, “So writing, for me, is inspired by a wide array of sounds and styles, and narratives. And today, I live in a very modern city, and am moved by very modern musical concepts.” Confident and vibrant in approach, she’s been championed by Remezcla, MTV Iggy, as well as by Fader Magazine, who hailed La Yegros’ “raw urgency while sounding completely relaxed and conversational”.

Maracuyeah: Washington DC’s Maracuyeah collective is internationally known for rockin mixtape-style Pan-Latin-to-the-Future sounds that shake crowds, and mixing traditional & popular tropical rhythms that founders Djs Mafe & rAt grew up with. Their dj sets feature everything from vintage chicha recordings, cumbias rebajadas, 3ball gems from 2017, dancehall, 80s rock en español, electro-cumbia sensations, tropical booty bangers and their very own flavor- quinceañera bass. Maracuyeah is also a crew of amigxs who organize quarterly tropical underground events in DC- featuring weirdo Latin independent artists complemented by always (re)mixed dance fiestas.
